Message from Debra A. Hagan, President
I just want to say that I hope everyone has a healthy, happy and prosperous Christmas and New Year. I also wanted to thank you for all the hard work you do. This has been a year of firsts, contract negotiations and wins!
Recently we held our First Annual Bets for Vets. We honored the Veterans of Transport Workers Union Local 252 with an evening of music, food and gambling for prizes. The United Way of Long Island's Mission United initiative is a critical program supporting Long Island military veterans and their families as they transition to civilian life. The program addresses issues from financial needs to healthcare resources and educational programs. We had a great turnout and were able to successfully give back to our Veterans.
This year's First Annual Picnic was held on May 16th at Belmont Lake State Park and was a huge success! All who attended enjoyed the BBQ, Softball and good times with their fellow Brothers and Sisters.
We ratified a contract with First Student. There was overwhelming support for the negotiating team throughout the process resulting in the majority of the members ratifying a contract that gave increases in all categories.
With the launch of our new communications structure including a new mobile friendly website that will continue to grow and get better, our newsletter Next Stop and occasional text messages have helped us communicate better, faster and stronger.
With a new year comes new challenges and I know if we stand together in solidarity we will get through them all. On behalf of the staff and officers of Local 252 and myself have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and safe New Year.
